About This Course

Welcome to the POW Training Course. Thank you for your participation! We're glad you have decided to make an important contribution to the health of the geoscience discipline by talking with students about careers in our profession. This course is designed to provide you with access to well-tested tools that will aid you in discussing career opportunities in the geosciences. In particular, we encourage you to consider using some of the more non-traditional approaches, which you will work through in this course. Our assessments have shown our materials and methods to be effective at engaging the broad range of students you are likely to meet.

Course Format & Objectives

This course will take about 2.5 hours to complete. There are three main sections to the course:

Additionally, each of these main sections have two sets of objectives:

  • Course Objectives are goals which we are striving to achieve during this course.
  • POW Initiative Presentation Objectives are the goals which we're aiming to achieve during the actual discussions with students and faculty.
